Why is my Wi-Fi slow?

Wi-Fi speeds can be affected by a number of factors within your home. If your Wi-Fi is slower than expected, there are a few simple checks you can carry out to help improve performance.

Things to try first

  • Reboot your router – your router is like a small computer and may need restarting occasionally.
  • Try another device – if only one device is affected, the issue may not be your Wi-Fi.
  • Move your router – positioning can impact performance. Thick walls and metal objects can block signal.
  • Keep your router away from other electrical devices – this helps reduce interference.
  • Disconnect unused devices – too many connected devices can slow your connection.

Check your connection speed
To determine whether the issue is with your broadband connection or your Wi-Fi, we may ask you to complete a wired speed test.

To do this:

1. Connect a device to your router using an Ethernet cable
2. Visit https://speedtest.net
3. Run the test and take a screenshot of the results
4. Send the screenshot to our support team
