eero Internet Backup: everything you need to know

Josh G | Social Media & Content Lead

For those unavoidable moments, when your internet connection suddenly drops off and you’re in the middle of that important Teams call, series finale or Hyrule quest, your eero will now come to your rescue.

Automatic super eero

Of course, we never want your broadband to cut out and we do everything we can to make sure this doesn’t happen. But when things like storms and power cuts do spoil the party, you can automatically switch to a backup hotspot that’s connected to your eero, so you and your Wi-Fi won’t miss a beat.

How it works (the quick version)

You can use your phone (or any device which can support a hotspot) to wirelessly tether to your eero, and then the 4G or 5G signal (depending on what your house’s coverage is) will get you online. For more info on how this works, just click here

How to get your eero Internet Backup ready

First, make sure you have the latest version of the eero app - to do this, open it up and go to ‘Settings > Troubleshooting > About’ and you can see if an update is required.

Once your app is up to date just follow these steps:

  1. Tap ‘Internet’
  2. Select ‘eero Internet Backup’
  3. go to ‘add a backup network’
  4. Search networks and select your backup network when it appears
  5. Follow the prompts to add your password and complete the setup
  6. You should now see your backup network on the main internet backup screen.

And don’t just stop there - you can add up to eight backup networks by repeating this process!

Why eero Internet Backup is so brilliant

It's automatic - when your internet connection drops out, your eero automatically switches to a backup network: you don’t need to do a thing. And this works both ways, so as soon as the outage has ended, you’re back onto your full fibre connection.

It’s seamless - there's every chance you won’t even notice you switched to Internet Backup, halfway through the latest episode of Love is Blind.

It’s always there - whether you're working, gaming, streaming, or managing a smart home, eero  Internet Backup means you never have to worry about losing your connection.

All the ways it helps

1. Remote working 💻

You've got your morning coffee, your to-do list, and a full schedule of Teams meetings. Everything’s going smoothly until – uh-oh – your internet suddenly drops. But instead of all that frustration and lost time, your eero Internet Backup kicks in, and your day continues without a hitch.

2. Gaming greatness, guaranteed 👾

You're on the verge of victory. You can almost taste it, or maybe that’s just the adrenaline. But wait, what’s this? Your connection has been taken out. Disaster, surely. Actually no. Your eero Internet Backup saves the day.

3. Streaming sessions 📺

It's film night, and you’re just getting to the good part when the buffering circle of doom appears. Spoiler alert, eero Internet Backup guest stars to keep the action rolling.

4. Connected homes stay connected 📱

With eero Internet Backup, your smart home stays smart, even when your broadband connection goes down. Alexa, keep calm and carry on.
